Bibliography - Research Paper Example Visual arts and film studies is a broad body of knowledge that requires adequate research in a variety of fields. Several scholars in the field of visual arts and film studies have wrote useful research books that can be used for comprehensive studies. Francisco Goya is among the scholars who have made a great contribution in the field of visual arts and film studies. A critical analysis of his works portrays a cognitive combination of various artistic features aimed at broadening the reader’s mind in analyzing artistic aspects. Francisco Goya developed the los Caprichos, which comprise of 80 sets of prints put out as an album (Goya, 50). Francisco’s works are organized as an artistic experiment tailored to picture the flaws in the knowledge base of the Spanish society, a place he spent much of his time. Francisco elaborated the issue of dominance of superstition in the society, high level of ignorance, defective leadership approach, and marital slipups. Generally, his works can be described as depicting since they are concerned with outlining misconceptions that are evident in any civilized society. In essence, most of his works point out deceptive features in the society such as ignorance, self-interest by leaders, and unclear means of acquiring wealth. For the purpose of studying various aspects of visual arts and film studies, we can focus on the fourth series of Francisco’s artistic genre. The series is a critique of the practices experienced in the 18th century in the Spanish society and the human race at large. Francisco uses a unique informal style of writing to convey crucial information regarding the contemporary society and people behavior. His style of presenting ideas laid a foundation for quality print production for future generations. From studying the works of Francisco Goya, people understood that information can be passed through prints and animation. In addition, blending color with a combination of

Political science - Essay Example In fact, national democracy is one of the key sources of such transactional cost, since it provides sovereign risk and regulates rules at the border. In addition, national democracy reduces chances of global risks by providing regulations and supervision of financial intermediaries (Rodrik, 212). Therefore, it is important that global federalism be adopted where democratic politics is aligned with global markets. Consequently, it is important that the national state is maintained and the needs of international economy are also catered for. As a result of this, the nation will in most cases pursue the objective of achieving global economic integration before considering other objectives. The national democracy can also be used in order to reduce the goals and visions of the international economic integration and going for limited globalization as was witnessed in post war in Bretton Woods’s regime where there was more capital control and minimal trade liberalization (Rodrik, 102). Although, this system led to failure of the approach given, it is thus important that for more globalization to be achieved, national democracy or national sovereignty must be reduced. Furthermore, this clearly illustrates that national democracy is one of the factors that determine the state and pace of globalization in a country. The potential effect of globalization is the reduction of national democracy, which also reduces global fiscal competition. In that sense, it is important that democracy be provided in a way that promotes civil rights, although this will lead to low economic growth but cause high social stability. In addition, this can help in expanding global civil rights (Rodrik, 110). This also clearly indicates that economics is an important political decision-making processes that requires global order. Furthermore, although globalization is one of the factors for economic growth in both rich and poor countries, it is currently producing a different result

Conflicting Perspectives Essay Example for Free

Conflicting Perspectives Essay â€Å"An important outcome of studying this elective is the realisation that all representations of perspectives are designed to provoke an intended response. † To what extent does this statement relate to your study of at least one of Hughes’ poems and one related text of your own choosing? In some texts authors have the intention to evoke a personal understanding in the audience. However, the personal experience varies between each individual creating conflicting ways in response to a text. These responses to the messages from the authors are shaped through personal experience and values of the individual. The notion of conflict within perspectives is evident in â€Å"Birthday Letters† by Ted Hughes especially in the poems â€Å"Fulbright Scholars† and â€Å"Sam† as well as in Michel Gondry’s film â€Å"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. † The conflict within memory and connections leads to a representation of their conflict in perspectives. The nature and strength of memories is to some extent subjective in relation to events, situations and people. Hughes proves this idea of selective memory through the use of rhetorical questions asked in his first poem Fulbright Scholars such as â€Å"where was it, in the Strand? † and â€Å"was it when I bought a peach? These questions are evidence of his disordered memory. Hughes perspective of Plath is somewhat subjective as he remembers vague details of particular moments and her â€Å"Veronica Lake bangs. † In his second poem â€Å"Sam† depicts the same events as Plath’s poem â€Å"Whiteness I remember† but showing his conflicting interpretation of Plath’s memory. The two poems prove conflicting ideas through the tempo of the first paragraphs and Hughes ongoing use of caesura. Although Plath interprets the event to be a â€Å"great run† and â€Å"high as the roofs† conflicting this idea Hughes describes it as dangerous and Plath having â€Å"lost (her) stirrups. The text â€Å"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind† proves memory to be a selective sense; the character Joel displays merely a memory of selective moments, objects and feelings of his past relationship with Clementine. The key motifs are birthday presents and certain outings. The fallibility of memory can lead the distortion of connections between memory and reality. The author intends to create a particular emotional response to the text that is represented through a connection between the audience and their perspective of the text. The connection between the perspectives in â€Å"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind† show the author is being balanced and unbiased. The perspectives of both the character is shown equally to the audience, forcing and internal response in each individual. In â€Å"Fulbright Scholars† Hughes repetitively uses â€Å"you† to simultaneously speak to Plath as well as the audience, to create a more intimate connection with the text. This continues into his next poem â€Å"Sam† alongside alliteration and assonance in the line â€Å"horribly hard, swift river† increasing the intensity for the audience. In the final stanza Hughes personifies Sam as himself, and positions the audience as Plath. In the line â€Å"you strangled me† he uses accusatory language to gain an emotional response and connection from his audience, which relates back to the publics perceptions of him during this time. It is clear that all authors create their texts to gain a reflection the audience towards the text. Each text is a representation of the author’s perspective response to their memory, creating an emotional connection to their audience, which provokes an internal response. The connections made are used to intensify a reaction within each individual.

Promoting Rights of Health and Social Care Users

Promoting Rights of Health and Social Care Users Introduction: Social and health care is now a corner of interest for all the citizens. Some human are born with disease, some are having after birth and some has nothing but age. Age related diseases are now having various dimensions. Diabetic, dementia, frail, cancer like diseases is infecting the elders pretty quickly. So they need medical and individualized care which is best served in the health and care service organizations. In this situation all employees are needed to be trained and motivated to do this important job. LO1 Understand how the design and review of services promotes and maximises the rights so users of health and social care services 1.1 Explain how current legislation and sector skills standards influence organisational policies and practices for promoting and maximising the rights of users of health and social care services. Legislation: There are many laws that are applied and effective in the social and health care sector in the recent years. But the most revolutionary laws about the health and social care are stated below. Modernising Social Services The Modernising Social Services were published on the 1.1.1998. It emphasizes on the public protection, ensuring the best quality service, option of service and availability for adult and children. The key features of the law are Service should be provided to the individual with respect and freedom. People don’t have to match their life with the social care system to get their desired service. People should have a say about what is his needs and how it can be met. Services should meet the asking issues and collaborate with the housing, education, health and social care or any other help that are needed by the customer. In UK all the part of the country should be under the same service coverage and the care must be financed fairly. Special Children that can stay on their home should have their opportunities to make a successful life like the normal kid. All the receivers of the service should be assured about the staff are well trained and the staff should be devoted enough to uphold their commitment, high quality standards of training.(Tudor-Hart, 2005) To protect the people from the discrimination of gender, colour, race, ethnic origins, nationality and disability there is a strong legal structure. The main pillars of these structures are Amendment Regulations 2003 Race Relations Act 1976, Amendment 2000. Disability Discrimination Act 1995, Amendment in force from October 2004. Disability rights Commission Act 2000 Employment Equality Regulations 2003 Employment Rights Act 1996 and the Employment Relations Act 1999. Equal Pay Act 1976 European Race and Employment Directive 2000 Human rights Act 1998 Protection from Harassment Act 1997 Sex discrimination Act 1975, Amendment 1982, 1999. Sexual Orientation Regulation 2003 (Legislation England) These are the legislation that is the pathway of the organization to work in the UK. Policy and the organizational practice need to be same as these laws. UK governments put these laws in front of the people to make them safe and assure about the social and health care service they intend to receive. The politics and the ministry are mainly dependent on social care and the public have a careful interest about how the government is working on the issues. So the government is very sincere about social care and health service. Sector Skills Standards The transformation of the social care workforce strategy body into Skills for Care happened in 2005, April 1st. This organization is concerned about the adults and their social care. But the children issue is not left. Another organization is assigned to that matter and the name of that organization is Children’s workforce Development Council. These two organizations are interrelated by â€Å"Skills for Care and Development† and its working rage is spreader not only in UK but also in Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. (www.topssengland.net/) Skills for Health were started in April 2002 with the direct support from the four health department in UK. In October 2001 The Social Care Institute for Excellence was launched with an intention to provide knowledge about the good social care practice. Social care for the adult and children, social work education are the objectives of the SCIE. This government controlled organization to make the quality service available from the social care service providing organization. Sector skills standards are maintained by these organizations. These organizations work as the tools of government to make the development, monitor the service, evaluate annually and control the policy and practice of the organization. Mass people’s complaints about the service, their feedback and the satisfaction level of their family are the concern of the organizations. To make the best outcome possible from the social service is the aim of this organization. So the individual who are receiving the social and health care are now feel relax and safe about the service they are having and this sets the standard bar even higher. 1.2 Analyze factors that may affect the achievement of promoting and maximising the rights of users of health and social care services. The factors that can influence the achievement of the best possible of the users of health and social care services are given below: Problem in communications: For providing information and the service there is a vas importance of the communication skills. Understanding among the service providing organization and the customer is relied on this. Sometime the customer cannot know what is best for his or her conditions. Customer sometime cannot choose the way of having the service. Organization can fail to give update service for its customers for the communications problem. Some disable persons need special language like sign language, body language or Braille. Legislation and the instruction need to be in understandable form for the customer. So the communication can appear as the obstacle for the customer or user of specific service. Aggression: Some patients become aggressive for their illness. They don’t like the attitude of the service provider and they don’t show enough patience to know what is best for him or her. For this situation service or the rights can be very difficult to apply. Culture and belief: Patient’s cultural need can be ignored by the health care provider. Different cultural patterns, attitudes, expectations and beliefs are belonged to the people, coming from different culture and country. So not able to understand the cultural value can appear as the barrier in the achievements. Education and income: Asking unnecessary information about their income and education is taken offensively sometime by the patients. Sometime the patients need pay the bill though they are not interested in paying. (Coiera, 2011). 1.3 Analyze how communication between care workers and individuals contribute to promoting and maximising the rights of users of health and social services. The people who are having the health and social services are having problem in communicating with others. Sometimes they cannot understand the simple words. There can be a violent situation if the words from the speakers are working inversely. So before working along the customers the words should be chosen fairly and respectfully. There are some methods of communications and they are. Awareness while speaking: The care giver should be careful about their body language and voice tone while they are interacting with the patients. To make the patients more feel safe and healthy the care giver should communicate politely. The care giver can gain trust of the patient by behaving politely. Mentioning name: Patient likes to know their care giver. So care giver must state his or her name at the initial time of the conservation. Critical patient can find some relief by having a conversation about the home town. Questioning: Care giver or doctor should ask patient about the condition of his or her. During the questioning long sentences should be avoided. One short question at a time is eligible procedure at this type of situation. Some it is very convenient to ask questions that have only yes or no as answer. (Christensen and Silvestre, 2010) LO2. Understand how to promote the participants and independence of user of health and social care service. 2.1 Explain factors that may contribute to loss of independence, non participants and social exclusion for vulnerable people. There are some factors that can cause loss of independence and social exclusion. They are dependent to care taker and sometime avoided in the decision making even when the decision is about the patient’s treatment or welfare. Dependency: Vulnerable adults or children are subjected to independency and social ban because of their dependency to the care giver. These vulnerable are sometime not allowed to live their daily life for inability or life threat. According to the service user’s mental and physical condition they are not sometime not permitted to spend their time and money on own willing. So the outcome is predictable, they lose their minimum ability to live their own life. This also makes them insulted as they don’t like to attend any social ceremony because of their dependency. Keeping away from decision making: Usually the patients or vulnerable persons are not allowed to make their own decision as it can make some unusual problem. This situation creates frustration among the individual and him or her become more minor. Constraint: This is the main cause of becoming dependent. Constraints become threat when the vulnerable person is bound o think like the normal people. So the adult vulnerable should be allowed to live their daily life but not all the work can be done by them. So the individual should be aware of his own inability and assisted to do some daily fundamental work. This will prevent the frustration, dependency and the bitter taste of reality. (Appleby, Raleigh, Frosini, Bevan, Gao and Lyscom, 2011) 2.2 Analyze how organizational systems and processes are managed to promote participation and independence of users of health and social care services. Organization can promote participation and independence of individuals by providing training to staff, collection of feedback, monitoring and open resource of information for every individual. Empowering individuals All the service receivers should be appreciated and get the chance of empowering their hidden potentiality. Empowering the vulnerable can develop the quality and quantity of the service and its delivery. But there should be a guideline of working to participate with their potentiality. So the organization must make a statement to the service receivers about the benefit that can be done by their empowerment. Measurement of individual’s performance: The organization should available that all the staff is coping with the changes so they can perform well in the service. This will change the service quality and the service receiver will be satisfied than ever. When the staff discovers that their good hard work is changing the service receiver and the company they will do extra organizational work. Information sources: Employee and the service receiver should have open and free access to the data so that they can know about the problems and find a suitable solvency. All the weakness and strength can then become a clear picture in the mind of the staff and receivers. This will make them as the part of the organization and everyone can feel their duty to this organization. This will encourage them to participate and work independently. (Buchanan, Fitzgerald and Ketley, 2007) To maximize the independence and participation there should be empowerment of needs based on social, physical and emotional, intellectual factors, information access, confidentiality measurement, taking part in the decision making. Providing them the right: They can keep their secrets, safety and security. Letting them to take risk: This can only be done after the risk assessment. If the risk is greater than the expectation then that can be barred. Giving them the opportunities to communicate and relate to anyone they like. Permitting them to personalized care, responsibilities. Individuals must be given chance to take their own decision and make choices for them. Decision making ability must be practiced and they should have their own choice. Information should be available for the individuals. Every service receiver should have the right to take part in their own religious and cultural activities. Providing a range of options from which they can make choices options should be there to make a choice. The service receiver should be encouraged to face their own problem and solve it successfully in near future. (Improvement and Development Agency, 2010) 2.3 Analyze the tensions that arise when balancing the rights of individual to independence and choice against the care provider’s duty to protect. Many issues can raise the tensions while providing the service to vulnerable person. For example patients of dementia or frail intend to go some places by themselves. Service provider then put in some trouble. Dementia patients may loss their path and can’t return to the expected place. So they can harm themselves at that position and their aggressive behaviour makes it more difficult to retrieve them. Frail patients may loss their conscious easily and cause danger for themselves. When the patients are in that type trouble the service provider is accused of negelency. So the service provider should prevent the patient from doing anything that can bring danger. In that very time the individual has his humanitarian right to live independently. So this create the tensions between the relatives vs. customer, customer vs. staff, staff vs. employee, kid vs. parents, parents of the kid vs. service provider and employee vs. Employee. So tensions can bear at the place where the right a nd choice are conflicting over balance. The care provider should be keeping in mind that the client’s security is first than his independence. (Kizer, 2001) 3.1 Use a case study from a health or social care setting to identify the extent to which individuals are at risk of harm. We assume a scenario that Mr. S had harassed eight elder citizens in health care organizations. His customers have faced a life threat for this abuse. Now the risk of harm for this abuse is stated below: In the scenario a 78 years old lady pours cold water on her head. Researches shows that cold water shower is good for normal aged people’s health but it can injurious to the older people. Cold water in shower for the older persons can lead to heart attack, choking and even death. Paralysis is also a byproduct if he or she survives death. If there is some sexual harassment then there is the issue of shame. The lady must feel guilty and sorry that can push her to the suicide. The physical and mental stability can be hampered for this incident. No service provider can use force to make someone or the client to do something. He or she can only be asked or requested to do that. A 96 year old was forced to eat her food when she was not interested in eating. Mr. S also forced 81 years old to take sherry and that can lead to serious choke and the dying. This force implementation can cause vomiting and loss of appetite. Mr. S‘s clients were the patient of dementia and other psychological problem so most of memories can be vanished and they may take their experience as the treatment. So that is a physical and mental abuse. For the clients who are on wheel chair can’t make them safe or move quickly to a safer place. Not only their appropriate care was neglected but also they have experienced some hateful and regretful treats. 3.2 Analyze the effectiveness of policies, procedures and managerial approach within a health or social care setting for promoting the management of risks. Organizations have their policies, procedures to run their ventures effectively and to complete their objectives along with the governmental policy and laws. For example every health care centre has some law and rules according to the expected and unexpected risks, safeguarding from the unexpected risk, measuring and recording risk, take part in the abuse free working environment, procedures of gathering feedback, leadership pattern, policy about whistle blowing according with the sector skills standards. Management risks can be prevented by the assessment of risks, pattern of leadership and complain processes. A health care should have enough equipment to treat the patients. Early discovering of possible harassment, picturing the staff, complain with proper process, getting evaluation from the clients, monitoring the client’s financial, physical and psychological issues are also steps to avoid management risks. (Addicott, 2011) 4.1 Review current legislation, codes of practice and policy that apply to the handling of medication. There are some law, rules and regulations to handle medicine. The laws are Public Health Regulations 2002, Drug Misuse act 1986, Medicine Act 1968, Poisons and Therapeutic Goods regulations 2008, Drug Act 2005, Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Act 2002. According to the upcoming only a certified individual can handle the management of medicines to ensure the quality of care in the care institutions. It provides safety for the admin of medication with the personal care staff and in the organization. Doctors, pharmacists, surgeons, suppliers and nurses are capable of handling the medicine within a legal framework which is possible for the Medicines Act 1968. According to this law some medicines are cramped to sale, provide and handle. A licensed drug handler can only prescribe a medicine. This license has to be renewed after a certain year. Misuse of drug act 1986 and Drug act 2005 are the strong law to restrict the handling and misusing of drug. A supplier has to prove that the medicine has an honest and valid intention to supply drugs. Supplier can be assumed by court if he has more drugs than he have licensed for. Safe handling of the drugs is assured by the legislations, guidance and policies. (Christensen and Silvestre, 2010) 4.2 Evaluate the effectiveness of policies and procedures within a health and social care setting for administrating medication. The policies and procedures can help to achieve the best result for administrative drugs and care institutions. Care home are run by the policies and procedures and that can lessen the threat of medication. There is a record for all the medication to avoid the risks in future and this is done by the policy of the medicine administration. Side effects of the drugs are evaluated on the internet and the third party comments are regarded as most fair evaluation. Medication that are ordered must have some key features and that are Clear mentioned name Dose Time when the drug to be administrated Pattern of the administration. Reason behind the medication For these features all medicines are taken at the appropriate time. Nurses are responsible for any misuse of the medicine or any type negligence about the medicine. Hospitals use secret coded language for the prescription which can only be understood by the medical professionals. This is time saving and the care service has gained speed. Care homes are now having the implementation of medicinal administration which decreases the overall death less than 7000. Every care providing personnel have the guideline about accurate timing of dosage, medication, patient, route. The medical administration has the only goal and that is the best result and service for service receivers. (Christensen, Bohmer and Kenagy, 2000) Conclusion

Against His Will :: Homosexuality Short Story Essays

Against His Will Imagine waking up every morning and looking in the mirror knowing that the reflection is only an illusion of one’s inner being. As soon as eighteen-year-old Brian Clark’s alarm clock goes off, prepping and primping will take place for the next hour-and-a-half. Regardless of school, work, rain, or shine, Brian always has to â€Å"dress to impress.† With his red tight shirt, blue fit jeans, black star belt, red shades, and perfectly gelled hair, Brian can now be seen in public. As a daily routine, Brian must do his â€Å"therapy† by looking in the mirror and chanting against his will, â€Å"I love you Brian. You are beautiful.† â€Å"Having to admit to yourself and your family that you are gay is the hardest thing you will ever have to do in your life.† When one enters Brian’s room the soothing aroma of men’s cologne, â€Å"cool water† fills the air. The immaculate, perfectly ordered room will catch a person’s eye. Neatly tacked to the wall, posters of Aaliyah, Josh Hartnet, and I Love Lucy draw one’s attention. Beautifully stacked and organized, fashion design magazines lie in the shelf by month and year. Picture frames sit proportioned next to each other on top of the dust-free desk. Brian’s closet is full of freshly pressed shirts and pants with the label â€Å"dry cleaning† on the bag. Although Brian shares a room with his little sister, Sarah, she chooses to live out of their closet and sleep in the living room. â€Å"After fighting over who gets the closet space and bathroom time, my sister decided to let me have the room to myself,† Brian states casually. â€Å"I feel bad at times, but I guess she realizes how tough it is for me to grow up gay. Let the best man win!† he declares with a great chuckle. For Brian, growing up and having to live a lie was painful, furthermore humiliating. â€Å"I have always known that I’m gay,† Brian states nonchalantly. â€Å"The moment I could logically think, I knew I was different.† Brian strokes the side of his hair with his fingers while stating, â€Å"All of my life I’ve felt like a girl inside. When I was little, if a person closed their eyes and listened to my voice they would have mistaken me for a girl.

orwells political message to the world Essay -- essays research papers

Many authors bring in the theme of politics into their work in order to make their creations more appealing and as a form of expressing their personal views. George Orwell’s â€Å"Nineteen Eighty-four† is a novel that contains many political messages to the world. Orwell felt that part of his role as a writer is to serve as a voice of conscience to our society by trying to express the truth as he saw it. The novel was written in a crucial time period in modern history after the Second World War and at the beginning of the Cold War. One can see that the book was influenced by current events of its time mixed with Orwell’s standpoint. He focuses on three major political issues that effect society, which are the dangers of war, class differences and dictatorship. Orwell was trying to show how certain political systems could affect our society by working for only selected few’s interests and suppressing individual freedom. â€Å"1984† was written in a realistic way of the â€Å"worst case scenario† in order to warn people of what may happen if certain dangerous political ideologies gain or re-gain power. One of the most important political issues Orwell addresses in â€Å"1984† is the idea that war is bad. He does so by showing how the living conditions described in Oceania are a cause of the war. When it was reported that Oceania was winning, the citizens believed they would get benefits from it, which they did not. Orwell was pointing out the disadvantages of war that the poor life style was blamed on of the war effort. By emphasizing that he was showing that standard of living goes down during war for all people. The three powers Eurasia, Eastasia, and Oceania, are in a constant state of war with one another, yet all are self-contained and require no trade with one another, and therefore are not using war for economic needs. Because they have no economic reason, it can be suggested that Orwell was criticizing another popular reason to go into war (especially in WWII), nationality, and believed it should not be a justifiable reason for war. Goldstein’s book explained that the powers were in a constant state of war so the people will be too preoccupied with the war effort to worry about whether or not the present political system is working. The government distracts the people by constantly reminding them that when they win the war, Oceania will rule the world, and life will be ... ...s its own people (they are merely "cheap labour") One of the major issues in 'Nineteen Eighty-four' is the nature of freedom and the way that Totalitarianism has the capacity to destroy it. Winston's comment in his diary that "Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two makes four" encapsulates Orwell's belief that the individual must have the right to make up his own mind, regardless of official political party lines. The Party is a totalitarian government When the propaganda, deprivation, and rigid guidelines fail to convert someone to Party doctrine (INGSOC), the government uses torture to brainwash citizens. The fact that the Party must turn Winston into a walking zombie to finally crush his inner-revolt, reveals the Party’s ultimate frailty. Since the principles of INGSOC fail to inspire thinking people like Winston, the Party has no choice but to use extreme force and coercion to stay in power. Orwell calls upon his readers to recognize the evil and frailty of the Party and fight to prevent the spread of totalitarianism. While Orwell does not advocate for a specific alternative system, undercurrents of Socialism, Democracy, and Capitalism pervade.

Louis Vuitton in Japan

1. What are the key success factors of LV in Japan? Since Louis Vuitton entered the Japan market in 1968, it became the most popular luxury brand in Japan by having 28 percent share in Japan’s market. The key success of LV in Japan is mainly contributed by the appropriate balance in keeping the brand globalized while localized at certain areas for the Japanese. To achieve this outcome, the consistency in product quality, fashion appeal and brand image were carefully controlled and ultimately the Japanese developed an obsession towards LV. Being a world-class luxury brand having a long history, LV does not need to localize its brand image in order to be successful in Japan. What the Japanese consumers seek from LV is a European luxurious image and lifestyle which can enhance their status. Thus, LV uses the foreign consumer culture positioning as a European (or French) brand to market its products in Japan. In order to maintain its image, product quality is a basic requirement for consumers to recognize the brand’s value. Therefore LV maintains high quality products and most of them were manufactured in France. In additional, the image of the brand is maintained by keeping up with the trends while enduring prestige of the brand’s culture. For advertising, as they understand the Japanese consumers, LV did not hire Japanese celebrities to be the spokesperson. They still use the international superstars like Jennifer Lopez and Madonna, top models like Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss to be the spokesperson in their advertisement. All these controls have emphasized LV’s consistent high-end image for the Japanese consumers. Although LV remains globalization in Japanese market, it still has some areas that is localized and suit the Japanese culture. For instant, LV’s classic Monogram Canvas pattern was inspired by Japanese floral print and the collaboration with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami in designing the bag have let the patriotic Japanese to recognized LV as they appreciate their own culture and support their own country in a large extent. Therefore, Japanese consumers are more willing to accept the brand and have a positive attitude towards LV. 2. What accounts for the two tiered economy? Why are Japanese consumers (especially women) purchasing luxury goods during economically instable times? The two tiered economy is a global phenomenon which is similar to the idea of M-shaped society in Japan. It refers to the polarization of the economy in two tiers. The two tiered economy was shown in this case by the increasing number of demand for the luxury product while the income of the Japanese was decreasing and the unemployment rate is increasing. Globalization is the main factor contributed to the two tiered economy as it stimulate the strength and speed of competition in different industries and also the shifting of wealth. There are several reasons for Japanese consumers to purchase luxury goods during economic downturn. The first reason is that some of the young Japanese women who are living with their parents were given money to spend. They are not directly affected by the economic conditions and therefore they are still affordable for the luxury goods. Also, some of the Japanese women may have no faith in the future and believe that they should concentrate on fulfilling their current need only. Some Japanese consumers even purchase luxury goods to maintain their identity and status in groups and social contact. If everyone in a particular group owned a LV good and you belong to that group, typical Japanese will definitely own one LV bag also. 3. What stimulates such a high demand for LV in Japan? What puts Louis Vuitton over its competitors in Japan? LV was demanded by a large amount of Japanese because it understands their consumers more. Japanese shoppers have a quest for perfection with their culture. LV providing high quality products which made it distinctive when comparing to its competitors thus fulfill the need of the Japanese consumers. In order to make sure the quality of the products, each product produced by LV must pass a rigorous control. They also have a perfect balance between mechanization and handmade. For the product design, not only the designer is responsible for this category. When the marketing team found that consumers have high demand for a certain product, they modified an existing bag and sent it to production later on. It is clear that LV response to their consumers more and quicker. 4. Was there any strategy undertaken by LV to enter the Japanese market? When entering the Japanese market initially, LV is hoping to tackle the problem of counterfeit goods in Asia region. Therefore LV has not changed its image or localized itself in different aspects so as to attract the Japanese consumers. However, it is also a kind of strategy that is appropriate for the Japanese consumers. As the Japanese consumers thirst for a high-end European brand which is the image of what a luxury brand should be liked, LV entered the Japanese market successfully. Some examples included the globalization of the advertisements used and also the price in Japan was even higher than the one in Paris. In addition, LV stores are designed with sleek and modern interior design and become a landmark in Japan. Consumers will then feel more luxurious when shopping in the stores. 5. What are the challenges facing LV? And how should LV address them? The main challenge of LV is the problem of counterfeit goods, loss of lead designers and the balance between expansion and protection in its own brand’s exclusive features. Indeed, counterfeit good is already a global problem for all the luxury brands. In order to tackle this problem, LV should restrict the information outflow of the production of its products. For instant, LV already closed down a huge factory in Guangzhou. Also, LV should be aware of the after sale service for the consumers, especially the Japanese consumers. When the consumers realized the quality and also services worth the high price, they will be encouraged to buy the real products rather than the counterfeit one. For the problem of loss of lead designers, LV should train some young and talented designers (e.g. graduates from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design where a lot of famous fashion designer graduated) to let them work for the brand and develop a deeper understanding in the brand. For the problem of balancing its expansion while keeping the brand’s own personality, LV is already doing a good job as it controls its own distribution network. Even when the economy is in its downturn, LV insisted not to mark down its product. All these have helped LV to protect its own image.
